EXPLORATION 45 – The Extreme

The EXPLORATION 45 by Garcia Yachting is an absolutely beautiful and impressive marine vessel that has been specifically designed to give exceptionally comfortable sailing in high latitudes, as well as excellent sailing in those warm tropical waters. Built in France by Garcia Yachting, and with architecture and design by Berret-Racoupeau Yacht Design, this boat is simply superb.

With an enviable specification, this is an ideal boat for those wishing to undertake ocean sailing and should, indeed, accommodate even the most discerning customer who puts design and quality at the top of their list.

A very strong aluminium hull

EXPLORATION 45The EXPLORATION 45, with its strong aluminium hull, is 14.21 metres long, has a displacement of 14.1 T, a draft of 1.14/2.90 metres, beam of 4.44 metres, plus an impressive 55/75 CV diesel engine. In addition, this boat has a 700 litre fuel capacity and a generous 500 litre water capacity. With the integral aluminium centreboard down, the draft is 2.90 metres, and with the centreboard up, it is 1.14 metres.

The transom’s practical storage features include a 13kg gas bottle locker, together with a spare gas bottle storage locker on the starboard side, a mounted bracket to store the engine of the tenderan easily accessible life raft, which is positioned under the steps leading to the cockpit, and an accessible and removable ladder. This area also affords easy access to and from the water. A further mounted bracket can be found at the rear of the boat, ideal for housing an engine or hydro generator.

The sturdy, maintenance-free marine deck, made of cork and resin, is used in the transom and cockpit areas of the EXPLORATION 45.EXPLORATION 45

From the bow, the anchor chain passes under the deck to the electric windlass, which is located at the foot of the mast. When brought back to the centre of the boat, the weight of the chain, which is in the region of 350 kilos, significantly enhances its performance at sea.

The sail locker has a watertight bulkhead, and this too offers excellent storage facilities.

A coachroof, which also acts as an awning, gives good protection to the deck salon from the sun and heat when sailing in tropical regions.

Other features include thermal and acoustic insulation above the waterline, floor insulation, and electric ventilation. All valves are located above the waterline.

To limit the reliance on fuel to charge the batteries, the EXPLORATION 45 can accommodate solar panels, a wind generator and hydro generator.

EXPLORATION 45: Cockpit Area

EXPLORATION 45The comfortable and practical seating in the centre is removable, making it very easy to enter and exit the cockpit safely, and extra storage space is also contained within the seating itself. A drop-leaf table is also included.

There are two wheels with two independent cable steering systems, and a sheltered area to the front end of the cockpit ensures adequate shelter and comfort.

Particularly welcome, when the sea is rough, are the cockpit safety features, which include numerous handrails and six different areas to hook lifelines.

Essential lines are controlled from the cockpit, and winches are easily accessible from the wheel and the cockpit.

Light, airy and confortable interior

Just two steps down from the cockpit, and accessed by double-glazed, watertight doors with four locking points, making it both safe and secure in bad weather EXPLORATION 45conditions, the beautifully appointed deck salon affords 270 degree visibility, with the added bonus of an inside steering and navigational position.

All salon windows are double glazed, with one opening window just above the galley for extra ventilation whilst cooking.

The compact, yet well equipped galley area of the EXPLORATION 45 includes a stove, double sink with drainer, two fridge drawers, a table, and a seating area with additional storage under the central bench.

Proceeding forward from the salon, you will find a low sea bunk and additional storage cupboards, which could easily be converted to house a freezer drawer or microwave oven.

EXPLORATION 45Further forward, the owner’s cabin is extremely light and spacious, and the modern, well equipped en-suite bathroom includes toilet, basin, shower and storage cupboards.

Another light and airy, double cabin is situated aft, port side, and contains a watertight hatch giving access to the steering mechanism. The aft bathroom, again on the port side, is fitted with toilet, basin and shower.

The aft, starboard, technical locker has a watertight hatch, workbench, removable bunk, and a technical zone which can accommodate a washing machine and generator. Nevertheless, this area could be converted to accommodate two additional sea bunks.

The versatile accommodation is available in three layouts. The Standard version is available with two cabins and two bathrooms, whilst the Comfort version has two cabins, two bathrooms, a shower and an extra bunk. The 3C2T version has three cabins and two bathrooms.
